The Rankin Fellowship

About the Rankin Fellowship

The Rankin Fellowship Program is a hands-on learning experience for high school and undergraduate students who are motivated to explore their interests in science and medicine. At its core, the program aims to introduce students to medicine, leveraging the dynamic and exciting field of urology.

There are two main components of the program: Clinical, and Didactics. In the first component, students will have unique exposure to clinical experiences. Students will shadow multiple attendings and residents in clinics as well as join them in the operating room (OR). Students will build an understanding of the day-to-day as a physician, experience how doctors meet and treat patients, and gain clinical knowledge. Further, students will attend Grand Rounds, which are exciting opportunities where Fox Chase – Temple Urologic Institute physicians and visiting professors discuss clinical challenges and advancements.

In the second component of the program, students will expand their clinical experience by participating in hands-on activities they saw in the clinic spaces and ORs. Students will take part in multiple didactics, where they will have the opportunity to practice using various medical equipment, learn suturing techniques, and review core principles of medicine.

These two components of the Rankin Summer Program all serve to expose students to medical care and medical science.
