Thank you for your interest in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, a freestanding National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The goal of Department of Radiation Oncology at Fox Chase is to train future leaders in radiation oncology who will diagnose and treat common and rare cancers, provide exceptional care to patients, become innovators in the field, and teach future generations of physicians. We navigate residents to this goal by providing broad knowledge of clinical oncology, radiation biology, radiation physics, and biostatistics through a diverse program incorporating didactic instruction, clinical experience, research opportunities and laboratory experience. Our department offers nine residency positions (two per year with a third every 4th academic year); for a four-year training program (i.e. PGY-2 through 5) with entry following completion of an intern year of your choice.
Fox Chase Cancer Center
Fox Chase is an academic institution with an emphasis on oncologic training. In addition to our residency program in radiation oncology, we sponsor advanced clinical fellowships, including those in medical oncology, surgical oncology, urologic oncology, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, microsurgery, and pathology. Surgical residents, internal medicine residents, and medical students from around the world rotate through the hospital for their oncology training.

Fox Chase is a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), which also includes Memorial Sloan-Kettering, MD Anderson, Dana Farber Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and other leading oncology centers. This network develops national standards for cancer treatment, measuring outcomes, and contracting for cancer services. Fox Chase is also the leader of the FCCC Partner community hospitals in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey region.
Radiation Physics and Biology
The radiation physics department consists of doctoral-level physicists, certified dosimetrists, certified therapists, in-house engineers, and information technology specialists. In addition, a Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP)-approved Radiation Oncology Residency Program in Medical Physics is maintained. Both physics and radiation oncology residents receive two hours of didactic training each week in radiation physics and/or biology from September through June. The courses are given on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. During this time, the residents are excused from clinical activities. The courses emphasize both basic science and applications to clinical practice. In addition, radiation oncology residents may choose a physics research rotation as part of their training program. All alumni of the program have successfully passed the radiation physics and radiation biology national board exams.
First-year residents are supported to attend the NCCN Annual Conference. Second and third year residents with research to present and all fourth year residents attend the ASTRO Annual Meeting. Additional conference attendance is encouraged when the resident has research accepted for presentation.

Overall, each resident is entitled to 15 days (three weeks) of vacation per year and three personal days. There are eight paid holidays, during which time one resident must be on call. Residents will receive an annual educational allowance of up to $650.00. Health, vision and dental insurance for the resident and his or her family are provided by the center at no cost to the resident. Term life insurance is also provided in the amount of $10,000 at no cost to the resident, with additional coverage optional with additional premium. Long-term disability coverage is provided at no cost. Residents are provided with free parking in the hospital garage.
