Kathy was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, the youngest of three children, having two older brothers. Her mother was a registered nurse, and her father worked for USPS. She was painfully shy as a child but blossomed in high school and volunteered and signed up for as many extracurricular activities as she could.
At 15, her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer (having never smoked in her life) and sadly, passed away a year later. This event would have a tremendous impact on her and change the course of her life for years to come.
Her high school studies would take place at Archbishop Ryan High School where she created lifelong friendships with people who remain her touchstones today. As an above average student, she studied at Penn State and then Temple University with an emphasis on communications.
Life was a bit of a struggle in early adulthood, but Kathy found working in retail was a good fit and she enjoyed it; especially big-box retail. Her competitive nature was sure to help her to continue to grow within the ranks of the store level and then corporate office. Toys R Us would be her steppingstone and eight years later she would move onto Barnes & Noble. It was from there she thought for sure she would retire someday.
Life changed again in 2008 when her 5-year-old nephew joined her immediate family; her wife and stepson opening their arms to him. This event would lead her to make some major shifts in her career and where she wanted to land. In her heart, the one place she wanted to be was Fox Chase Cancer Center. It took a little time, but this dream would happen. She found her home and is grateful to be part of this amazing team.
