Treatment Philosophy

I am acutely aware of the impact that a breast cancer diagnosis has on an individual. I do my best to foster a positive environment in which to start my patients' course of treatment and take the time to explain the pros and cons of each treatment option, so that they can make an informed decision. My treatment philosophy also includes, not just an emphasis on successful treatment, but also preserving a good cosmetic outcome. I feel fortunate to be a fellowship trained, very highly specialized clinician practicing at Fox Chase Cancer Center, which is an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, because this combination of factors allows me, and our treatment team, to focus on one thing all day, every day, and do it well: curing breast cancer. I think there is nothing more rewarding that I could do as a clinician.

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

I discovered a pea-sized lump in my right breast at age 36, shortly after my father died. My father had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at age 19, colon cancer while in his 40s, and then esophageal cancer, which took his life at age 56. After his funeral, I felt I would get cancer one day, and as the oldest of 3 siblings, I thought I would probably be first. I was right.

Linda Gottlieb

Breast Cancer

When Linda Gottlieb learned she had breast cancer in 2008, she sought treatment at Fox Chase Cancer Center, where her husband had been successfully treated. Wanting to keep her breasts intact, Linda opted for a lumpectomy twice, but after her doctors could not declaare clear margins, she decided her only option was to have a mastectomy with reconstruction. This time, Linda's surgeons were finally able to remove all the diseased tissue. Linda has a very low chance of recurrance, and returned to work after eight weeks. After her experience with cancer, Linda encourages other women to perform breast self-exams because it saved her life.

Roseann Tice says her husband always called her a "sunshine person."

"As long as the sun was shining I was happy, and I would enjoy the day. If it was rainy, cloudy or overcast - not so much," recalls Roseann. But now, after a 15-year journey with the professionals at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Roseann even loves the rainy days. As she says, "every day, regardless of the weather, is a great day, because I'm alive."

I live close to Fox Chase and had been aware for years of what it has to offer, but I had never contemplated that I would one day be a patient there. My cancer diagnosis changed all that.

Breast Cancer

"My husband and I were planning to visit family and friends in England in March 2008 when I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at age 68. Our travel plans had to change when my routine mammogram at the end of February detected the aggressive cancer. Although there were regional hospitals closer to our home, we decided that I should be treated at Fox Chase."
