Homelessness, food insecurity, drug and alcohol addiction, depression, public safety, literacy, and on. The challenges faced by our patients often stretch beyond acute medical care, yet they also play a role in health outcomes and quality of life.

Fox Chase Cancer Center faculty, fellows, and staff gathered at the ASCO 2025 Annual Meeting in Chicago to present new research and celebrate national recognition.

Leah Powers knows she has big shoes to fill as the new President of the Friends of Fox Chase Cancer Center. Powers takes on the role following the leadership of her friend and mentor, Linda Hammell, Director of Fox Chase’s Community Cancer Screening Program, who held the volunteer position for more than a decade.

We’re thrilled to highlight the recent CBS-3 feature on Johnathan Whetstine, PhD, director of the Cancer Epigenetics Institute (CEI) at Fox Chase Cancer Center, which showcased both his groundbreaking research and his personal commitment to lung cancer advocacy.

“By standing together, we can change the story of this disease.” It’s a sentiment reflected not only in the presentation slides, but in the people who gathered on March 20 for the 2025 PurpleStride Philadelphia Leadership Breakfast. Presented by the Philadelphia Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and hosted by Fox Chase Cancer Center, the event brought together researchers, clinicians, and advocates from across the Philadelphia region for discussion and networking.

In a keynote address at the Oncology Nurse Advisor Summit, which was held virtually in March, members of the Fox Chase Cancer Center Office of Clinical Research (OCR) highlighted the important roles nurses play in cancer clinical trials.

Fox Chase Cancer Center welcomed newly elected State Representative Sean Dougherty to the campus on April 15, 2025. Rep. Dougherty was elected last November to serve Pennsylvania’s 172nd House District, which includes Fox Chase Cancer Center.
