Fox Chase Supports Sandy Sprint the World Virtual Run/Walk to Fight Ovarian Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (April 23, 2021) — Fox Chase Cancer Center is pleased to announce its ongoing support for the annual Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation’s Sandy Sprint the World virtual 5k &10k run/walk. Due to COVID-19 precautions, instead of the event being one day, faculty, staff, volunteers, patients, survivors, and their families can compete from April 24 through May 8.

    Preclinical Study Demonstrates Potential Efficacy of Vaccine for Preventing Colon Cancer in High-Risk Populations

    PHILADELPHIA (April 21, 2021)—Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer have published a study investigating the safety and efficacy of a vaccine, given alone and in combination with a PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor, that may prevent colon cancer in certain populations. In a preclinical in vivo model, when administered to mice predisposed to develop colon cancer, the vaccine primed their immune systems to recognize and fight cancer cells and prevent tumors from forming.

    Two New Studies Outline Treatment Decisions for Patients With Kidney Masses

    PHILADELPHIA (April 16, 2021)—Alexander Kutikov, MD, FACS, chief of the Division of Urology and Urologic Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, co-authored two publications examining important treatment decisions in kidney cancer and illustrating the role of minimally invasive partial nephrectomy—partial removal of the kidney—in the treatment of renal masses, which are abnormal growths on the kidney.
