Novel surgical and radiation techniques are making it easier for some patients with prostate cancer to prolong their lives following treatment. By employing the most modern clinical tools, Fox Chase Cancer Center offers the latest in imaging and prostate biopsy technology to improve patient care.

Lisa Erickson is honored to work for such a dedicated group of physicians at Fox Chase Cancer Center.  As senior medical secretary in Urologic Oncology, Erickson has been employed at Fox Chase for 24 years.

Below are a few speaking accomplishments from members of the Fox Chase Urologic Oncology surgical team in the first part of 2018.

Clinical trials play an important role in advancing scientific knowledge and helping shape the care of future cancer patients.

Robert Uzzo, MD, FACS, Chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology, is the executive director and Marc Smaldone, MD, surgical oncologist, is the regional clinical champion for the Pennsylvania Urologic Regional Collaborative (PURC).

It’s a true story that reads like a Hollywood script: two scientists from different countries meet at a conference and decide to collaborate on a shared interest. Along with a third scientist, they work together for years, with two of the scientists going back and forth across the ocean. Ultimately they make a landmark discovery that saves many lives and earns them the Nobel Prize. But rather than riding off into the sunset as the credits roll, their story continued.

“When I had surgery the first time it was an emergency. We had no time to weigh options or research the best treatment,” Mahmood Saeed said. “This second time, however, my wife and I were able to make an informed decision.”
