Treatment Philosophy

I am a urologic oncologist specializing in surgical treatment of cancers of the genitourinary tract. I have extensive experience with laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques and apply these approaches routinely to reduce the pain, recovery time, and complications associated with traditional open surgery.

I am skilled in nerve-sparing and organ-reconstructive surgery essential for preserving normal functions when treating prostate, testis, bladder and kidney cancer. I am sensitive to the particular issues regarding the diagnosis of genitourinary cancer and its subsequent treatment, including its physical and emotional effects on the patient and their family and support system.

I recognize each person is unique and requires a treatment individually tailored to them to achieve successful cancer treatment, limited treatment-related side effects and maintained quality of life.

Carolyn Tonic-Robinson

Kidney Cancer

Carolyn Tonic-Robinson

Kidney Cancer

In 2003, Carolyn Tonic-Robinson had a routine colonoscopy. She was 63 and was working full-time as a special education teacher, turned guidance counselor. While she waited for her results of the procedure, Carolyn subconsciously began rubbing her left side. A co-worker asked her if something was hurting her.

Terry Devlin

Prostate Cancer

Terry Devlin

Prostate Cancer

"Mr. Devlin, the biopsy came back positive. It is malignant. You have prostate cancer."

When 59-year-old Terry Devlin heard those words from his doctor, so many thoughts rushed through his head. "How do I tell my wife, my daughters, my granddaughter Samantha, my family? Will I live or die, and what kind of treatment should I get?"

Daniel Dacunha

Prostate Cancer

Daniel Dacunha

Prostate Cancer

In the spring 2007, Daniel Dacunha and his wife, Joanne, were watching television. "I saw a commercial that caught my eye," recalled Daniel. "It was for prostate cancer treatment and prevention at Fox Chase Cancer Center. After learning about their Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment Program, I figured I should call." The program is designed for men at increased risk of developing prostate cancer, which is often due to family history. Because Daniel's father, brother and cousins had prostate cancer, he knew the importance of calling Fox Chase.

Mary Crowther

Kidney Cancer

Mary Crowther

Kidney Cancer

It was Christmas Eve, 2014, and Mary Crowther, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, was enjoying the holidays with her family.  Later that evening, she experienced a sudden onset of hematuria (blood in her urine) progressing to vomiting and flank pain. This resulted in a trip to the emergency room early Christmas morning. She spent eight days in a community hospital, most of it in the ICU due to right kidney failure and sepsis. Several rounds of tests indicated that Mary had stage 3 kidney cancer.

Paul Cramer

Kidney Cancer

Paul Cramer likes to tell people that smoking saved his life, although he gave up the habit at age 26. In February 2010, Paul learned that his medical plan would cover a procedure to check for an abdominal aneurysm, for anyone who was - or had been - a smoker. Paul, who was 65 at the time and proactive about good health, opted for the test. The good news was that the results showed no aneurysm. The bad news was that doctors detected a cancerous growth on his left kidney. “It was aggressive: Stage 1 moving into Stage 2,” recalls Paul, who had no symptoms to speak of.
