Diagnosis of Lung Cancer

Accurate diagnosis is essential to choosing the best treatment for your type and stage of lung cancer. Fox Chase has the technology and experience to address lung conditions from lung nodules to metastatic disease. If a lung nodule or mass has been identified through a screening CT or other scan of the chest, then the next step is to assess whether lung cancer is present and, if so, its type and stage of development. A biopsy may be taken and examined in the lab to determine whether the nodule is cancerous. Tissue used for diagnosis may be obtained through the following:

  • An image-guided biopsy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Endoscopic bronchial ultrasound-guided biopsy (EBUS)
  • Mediastinoscopy
  • Video-scopic assisted lung wedge resection
