Treatment Philosophy

Coming from a large family, I believe in an approach to cancer care that involves the individual and the family. Personally, I treat my patients the way I would want my family treated—with honesty, compassion and skill.

Joining Fox Chase Cancer Center is the realization of a personal lifelong goal. The Center brings together the perspectives of innovative physicians and researchers to deliver revolutionary and cutting-edge treatment options to everyone. This tradition fits with my longtime dedication to provide patients with the best medical and surgical care.

I came to Fox Chase from City of Hope National Medical Center where I completed my fellowship in a leading robotic oncology program. Having had experience with more than 1,500 robotic prostatectomies, partial nephrectomy, cystectomy and neobladder, indiana pouch and ileal conduit diversions, I have treated patients with various urologic malignancies. I did this through the use of robotics and minimally invasive surgery, as well as open surgery, when appropriate. At Fox Chase, my goal is to continue offering excellent care and leading edge technology, ultimately to benefit the individual outcome and overall quality of life of my patients.

With today's advancing technology, it is critical for me, as a surgeon, to keep current with the expanding base of knowledge and make contributions that translate into reducing the burden of cancer. This starts with the individual and then applies to populations. This knowledge will be invaluable throughout my career as I care for my patients, make decisions, assume leadership responsibilities and respond to complex situations.

The Dr has returned my life to normal.

Being diagnosed with prostate cancer is a very hard reality to deal with. To always have in the back of your mind, despite the fact you may feel well or your doing well is still a false sense of security. After my prostatectomy 3 yrs ago, my results outside of the 1 result has been <0.1 a previous result came back at 0.066 Dr. Viterbo was concerned and scheduled me another test to be done 3 months after. My next results came back as <0.1 again which Is undetectable. This made me feel so good because I was worried that the cancer was returning. During my video call with Dr. Viterbo, I was made to feel It wasn't good enough and ordered me another ultra sensitive test. I don't blame her for taking extra precautions, but sometimes to hear something encouraging goes a long way for someone's psyche. I feel no better now with a negative result than I did with the result moving. Something positive would have been nice to hear other than not good enough.

As I stated in previous surveys as well as in person, the professional interactions with every Fox Chase representative has been an excellent experience. Regarding Dr.Viterbo and her staff, I feel that I'm in the best professional hands receiving the most comforting personal care available. Specifically, the knowledge of rare physiological conditions and the interest in the details of my personal case by the attending technicians compliment Dr. Viterbos expertise. I couldn't feel more cared for. The emotional intelligence of the group is outstanding. I enter feeling comfort from the door person on and leave with confidence looking toward the future. Dr. Viterbo, her staff, and Fox Chase has my back and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank You!
