PHILADELPHIA (January 5, 2022)— Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center recently received a $497,000 multi-year grant from the National Cancer Institute within the National Institutes of Health to develop a way to evaluate novel drug therapies in patients with pancreatic cancer.

PHILADELPHIA (December 17, 2021)—Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, FACS, chief of the Division of General Surgery and co-director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been elected a member-at-large for the Society of University Surgeons (SUS). According to the SUS, the member-at-large position is an important part of its nominating committee. 

PHILADELPHIA (December 15, 2021)—Stephanie Greco, MD, FACS, an assistant professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) during the convocation ceremony at the ACS Clinical Congress, which was held virtually October 23-27.

PHILADELPHIA (December 14, 2021)—Loss of the protein-tyrosine phosphatase SHP1 may be used as a biomarker to predict efficacy of ibrutinib in certain cases of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), according to the results of a study by Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers presented in a poster at the 63rd ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition.

In Philadelphia, two distinguished scientists from Fox Chase Cancer Center are being awarded research grants to help study how lung cancer impacts people’s lives.

PHILADELPHIA (December 2, 2021)—Fox Chase Cancer Center has opened an investigator-initiated, phase 1 clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of gamitrinib in patients with advanced cancer. Gamitrinib is a first-in-class, mitochondrial-targeted inhibitor of the molecular chaperone heat shock protein-90 (HSP90) that works by inhibiting tumor cell metabolism and survival.
