Cancer occurs when the cells in the body begin to grow out of control. In the case of oral, head and neck cancer these malignant tumors develop in or around the throat, larynx (voice box), nose, sinuses and mouth. Cancers of the head and neck account for 4 percent of all cancers in the United States.
