SAN ANTONIO, TX (December 6, 2012)—Women are more likely to follow experts' advice on how to reduce their risk of an important side effect of breast cancer surgery—like lymphedema—if they feel confident in their abilities and know how to manage stress, according to new research from Fox Chase Cancer Center to be presented at the 2012 CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 3, 2012) – On March 1, 2013, leading cancer center administrator and nationally recognized hematology/oncology expert Richard I. Fisher, MD, will assume a set of vital leadership roles at Fox Chase Cancer Center, a member of the Temple University Health System, and Temple University School of Medicine.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 30, 2012)—Fox Chase Cancer Center will host the Third International Inflammatory Breast Cancer Conference on December 1-2, 2012, at the Sofitel Philadelphia (120 South 17th Street, Philadelphia).

The conference will focus on educating healthcare professionals and breast cancer advocates about inflammatory breast cancer (IBC)—a rare and very aggressive form of the disease that accounts for 1 to 5 percent of all breast cancers.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 15, 2012)—Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Board of Associates—a long standing group of volunteers who raise money for research and patient care through special projects and fundraising events—was named Outstanding Volunteer Fundraising Group of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals-Greater Philadelphia Chapter (AFP-GPC).

PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 12, 2012)—Pramod Krishnamurthy, MD, MPH, has joined Fox Chase Cancer Cancer’s pulmonary division within the department of medicine after completing a fellowship in interventional pulmonology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. He has special interests in interventional pulmonology and its application in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of lung and other cancers of the chest.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 1, 2012)— Fox Chase Cancer Center is the first center in Pennsylvania to offer the newly U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved ExAblate® MRI-guided focused ultrasound as a therapy to treat pain from bone metastases in patients who do not respond or cannot undergo radiation treatment for their pain. This is the second FDA approval for ExAblate, which has been used widely since it was approved in 2004 as a non-invasive, outpatient, therapy for uterine fibroids.
