PHILADELPHIA (May 6, 2026) — Sanjay S. Reddy, MD, FACS, Division Chief of Surgical Oncology and Co-Director of the Marvin & Concetta Greenberg Pancreatic Cancer Institute at Fox Chase Cancer Center, was recently appointed Vice Chair of the Surgical Oncology Program Directors Committee within the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO).
“It’s exciting and a genuinely full-circle moment to help shape the training of the next generation of surgical oncologists,” said Reddy, who is also the program director for Fox Chase’s Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship, the program through which he earned his board certification a decade ago.
The SSO is a premier global professional organization of over 3,000 surgical oncologists focused on advancing the science, education, and treatment of solid-tumor cancers. As Vice Chair of the SSO Program Directors Committee, Reddy and the committee chair will lead the program directors of the 43 Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowships across the United States and Canada in shaping the training, curriculum development, and accreditation standards for these programs.
“My goal in this leadership role is to cultivate the most well-rounded surgical oncologists possible, surgeons with the widest breadth of training and strongest technical foundation,” said Reddy.
In addition to the SSO honor, Reddy was appointed the Secretary of the new joint Pennsylvania chapter of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), a national organization that oversees the education, innovation, and leadership of surgeons across the United States and internationally. Prior to 2026, Pennsylvania maintained separate ACS chapters. This year, two chapters merged to form the Pennsylvania Commonwealth chapter of the ACS, and Reddy was appointed to the new executive council. The unified chapter represents 43 counties across Pennsylvania.
“This newly formed Pennsylvania Commonwealth chapter consolidates shared resources and increases surgeons’ ability to meet and learn from each other,” said Reddy. “Forming this combined chapter will strengthen advocacy and deepen education and mentorship opportunities across the region. I’m honored to play a part in shaping it.”
Reddy was also inducted into the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University’s Epsilon Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a testament to his excellence as a clinician, researcher, educator, and leader in surgical oncology.
“Sanjay’s appointments are a remarkable national distinction and demonstrate not only Fox Chase’s level of investment in educating future surgical oncologists nationally but also the high standard we hold for surgical excellence at our institution,” said Jeffrey Farma, MD, FACS, Chair and Professor in the Department of Surgery at Fox Chase.
