Treatment Philosophy

My path toward becoming a nurse began with a goal of finding a career in which I could support people facing a challenge.  I obtained my first degree in psychology from Drew University.  Afterwards, I spent some time working as a caregiver for young children with special needs and volunteering as a companion to patients in hospice care.  As I watched these individuals and their family members face remarkable challenges in inspiring ways, I grew to appreciate the impact that even a small amount of guidance, compassion, and support can have in mitigating those challenges.  Ultimately, I decided on a career path that combined my interests in physical and psychosocial health, and I went on to study nursing at Georgetown University.  There, I was given the opportunity to conduct research on supportive and psychosocial services for cancer patients and the impact of those services on patients’ quality of life.  With a background in both psychology and nursing, caring for the whole person and considering both physical and emotional health is close to my heart and central to my nursing philosophy.

Before coming to Fox Chase, I spent five years working as a bedside nurse on a surgical oncology inpatient unit in Washington, DC.  There, I cared for patients working through the postoperative phase of their cancer treatment.  At Fox Chase Cancer Center, I have the opportunity to work with patients at various points in their course of treatment, including initial diagnosis.  As a Nurse Navigator for patients with head and neck cancer, I am fortunate to be part of a remarkable team which facilitates excellent care through a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.  A new cancer diagnosis can bring an overwhelming amount of information and a new and unfamiliar way of life.  To be able to play a role in guiding and supporting patients as they make this journey is a privilege I am truly grateful for.
