About

Matthew Custodio, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Fox Chase Cancer Center.

He cares for patients at the Main Campus and brings a strong background in internal medicine, gastroenterology, clinical research, and quality improvement. His clinical interests include evidence-based endoscopic care and improving gastrointestinal cancer-related outcomes.

Dr. Custodio completed his fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He previously completed his Internal Medicine residency at Boston University Medical Center, where he also served as a resident leader in inpatient operations, quality improvement, and medical education initiatives.

He earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Philosophy from Boston College. Dr. Custodio is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and has received multiple distinctions for academic and clinical excellence.

His research focuses on gastrointestinal disease outcomes, health systems quality improvement, and clinical decision-making in endoscopic and hepatobiliary conditions. His work includes studies on post-polypectomy surveillance adherence, diverticulitis follow-up colonoscopy rates, inflammatory bowel disease outcomes, and provider variation in transfusion practices in gastrointestinal bleeding. He has authored peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and abstracts presented at national meetings.
