Esophageal Cancer Patient Stories
After losing his first wife to breast cancer, Barry Thomas was diagnosed with cancer twice. A patient at Fox Chase Cancer Center since 2003, he considers his team of doctors to be extraordinary. “I’ve had two surgeries, tests and scans, and follow ups, and I have attended support groups at Fox Chase for 13 years. Through these experiences I feel very confident at Fox Chase,” he says.
Bobby Kabaci suffered from heartburn since he was a child. Growing up, he became so used to it that it never really occurred to Bobby to go to his doctor. Bobby's mother, who worked in a doctor's office, insisted over and over that he seek medical attention. "I finally thought that if I went to the doctor, my mom would stop bugging me to go!" laughed Bobby.
Almost everyone faces challenges in his or her lifetime. For Rich Johnson, his life-altering challenge was a shocking diagnosis of esophageal cancer in May 2008. He was 50 years old. His immediate thoughts were to find out what treatment was available; which cancer centers offered leading treatment; and where he could find the country's top cancer specialists.
