Fox Chase Cancer Center Welcomes Christopher M.K.L. Yao

PHILADELPHIA (August 17, 2020) – Fox Chase Cancer Center announces the hiring of Christopher M.K.L. Yao, MD, FRCSC, who will join the Department of Surgical Oncology as an assistant professor in the academic clinician track in the Division of Head and Neck Surgery.

His clinical focus will be on the management of both benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, including advanced skin cancers, salivary gland disease, and thyroid/parathyroid disorders. He also has a particular interest in transoral robotic surgery, complex microvascular reconstruction for head and neck defects, and sentinel lymph node mapping.

Yao is coming to Fox Chase from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he completed a two-year fellowship in advanced head and neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstruction. He received his medical degree from the University of Toronto and remained there to complete his residency in otolaryngology head and neck surgery. He is certified in the field and an active member of the American Head and Neck Society and the Canadian Society of Otolaryngoloy-Head and Neck Surgery.

Yao is also a reviewer for the Head and Neck Journal and the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Journal. He has presented at international meetings and published in several peer-reviewed journals. Yao has also written book chapters and co-authored a textbook. He is fluent in Cantonese and is interested in quality, outcomes research, and big data.

Yao will begin work at Fox Chase on September 1, 2020.
