PHILADELPHIA (January 4, 2022)—Fox Chase Cancer Center is pleased to announce the hiring of Danish Ahmad, MD, as an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine for the Division of Pulmonary, Sleep and Critical Care Medicine.

PHILADELPHIA (December 17, 2021)—Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, FACS, chief of the Division of General Surgery and co-director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been elected a member-at-large for the Society of University Surgeons (SUS). According to the SUS, the member-at-large position is an important part of its nominating committee. 

PHILADELPHIA (December 15, 2021)—Stephanie Greco, MD, FACS, an assistant professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) during the convocation ceremony at the ACS Clinical Congress, which was held virtually October 23-27.

PHILADELPHIA (December 14, 2021)—Loss of the protein-tyrosine phosphatase SHP1 may be used as a biomarker to predict efficacy of ibrutinib in certain cases of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), according to the results of a study by Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers presented in a poster at the 63rd ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition.

PHILADELPHIA (December 13, 2021)—Billy Truong, a doctoral candidate at Fox Chase Cancer Center, was awarded the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Abstract Achievement Award for a poster that he presented at the 63rd ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition.

PHILADELPHIA (December 2, 2021) – As new and pressing lung health challenges emerge due to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and youth e-cigarette use, researchers continue to be at the forefront of scientific breakthroughs. In Philadelphia, two distinguished scientists from Fox Chase Cancer Center are being awarded research grants to help study how lung cancer impacts people’s lives.

PHILADELPHIA (December 2, 2021)—Fox Chase Cancer Center has opened an investigator-initiated, phase 1 clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of gamitrinib in patients with advanced cancer. Gamitrinib is a first-in-class, mitochondrial-targeted inhibitor of the molecular chaperone heat shock protein-90 (HSP90) that works by inhibiting tumor cell metabolism and survival.

PHILADELPHIA (December 1, 2021)—Cihangir Duy, PhD, MS, an assistant professor in the Cancer Signaling and Epigenetics Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been awarded a two-year V Scholar Award of $200,000. This grant will fund research into how certain acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells can reinitiate leukemia after chemotherapy.
