PHILADELPHIA (June 22, 2020)—Carolyn Y. Fang, PhD, was recently awarded a grant for the first large-scale study evaluating a method that allows Asian American women to collect their own samples, which can then be tested for the presence of the human papilloma virus (HPV). Fang will be conducting the research with Grace X. Ma, PhD, multiple principal investigator for the study.

PHILADELPHIA (June 18, 2020)—In a recent study, researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center found that muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients with specific gene mutations have better survival outcomes when treated with chemotherapy before surgery. The five-year survival rate for patients with at least one mutation was 85 percent, compared to 45 percent for patients without a mutation.

PHILADELPHIA (June 17, 2020) – The Fox Chase-Temple University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Program has been reaccredited for adult allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation, peripheral blood cellular therapy product collection, and cellular therapy product processing with minimal manipulation. Also included is a new accreditation for immune effector cells.

PHILADELPHIA (June 17, 2020) – Jessica Karen Wong, MD, MEng, will join the Department of Radiation Oncology as an assistant professor in the academic clinician track on July 1, 2020.

​PHILADELPHIA (June 16, 2020) – Fox Chase Cancer Center announces Shazia K. Nakhoda, MD, will join the Department of Hematology/Oncology in the Hematology-Lymphoma Program on July 1, 2020. Nakhoda will be joining the Fox Chase team upon graduation from the Fox Chase-Temple Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.

PHILADELPHIA (June 16, 2020)—Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center uncovered a mechanism by which the protein PRR14 acts as a tether within the cell’s nucleus to link heterochromatin and the nuclear lamina, an important feature in understanding the changes in nuclear organization in cancer.

PHILADELPHIA (June 15, 2020) – Fox Chase Cancer Center announces the hiring of Andrea S. Porpiglia, MD, MSc, who will join the Department of Surgical Oncology in the Division of General Surgery on July 1, 2020. She will see patients at Fox Chase main campus and Fox Chase East Norriton.

PHILADELPHIA (June 11, 2020)— The Department of Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies will be chaired by Henry Chi Hang Fung, MD, FACP, FRCPE, current director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program and vice chair of the Department of Hematology/Oncology. The change is effective July 1, 2020.
