PHILADELPHIA (November 1, 2018) — Stephen M. Sykes PhD, assistant professor in the Blood Cell Development and Function Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, will conduct studies to assess the therapeutic utility of targeting downstream transcriptional targets and upstream activators within the unfolded protein response (UPR).

PHILADELPHIA (November 1, 2018) – The new Cancer Epigenetics Program Johnathan Whetstine, PhD, will lead has basic, translational, and clinical research components, all dedicated to better understanding epigenetic regulation in cancer.

The goal of this grant is to train, test, and use a deep learning model for predicting kinase inhibitor selectivity. The project is entitled “D3SC: EAGER: Deep Learning to Design Selective Kinase Inhibitors.”

PHILADELPHIA (October 30, 2018)— Namrata (Neena) Vijayvergia, MD, assistant chief of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology, and Alexander Deneka, MD, PhD, postdoctoral fellow, both at Fox Chase Cancer Center, were among seven scientists selected to present at the Young Investigator Symposium at the semiannual ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group meeting on October 25 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

PHILADELPHIA (October 29, 2018) – Vladimir Kolenko, MD, PhD, has received a grant from the Department of Defense to study histone-dependent PARP-1 inhibitors in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. The objective of the proposal is to validate the therapeutic potential of novel PARP (poly ADP ribose polymerase)-1 inhibitors using clinically relevant cell and animal models of human clear cell renal cell carcinoma and investigate the mechanisms underlying their anti-tumor activity.

PHILADELPHIA (October 23, 2018) – John Michael Daly, MD, FACS, a surgical oncologist at Fox Chase Cancer Center, is among a group of 91 esteemed surgeons from seven countries selected to the new American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators™. 

PHILADELPHIA (October 22, 2018) – An analysis led by researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center found that treating localized prostate cancer with hypofractionated intensity modulated radiation therapy (H-IMRT) yields equivalent disease outcomes compared with conventional intensity modulated radiation (C-IMRT).

PHILADELPHIA (October 21, 2018) – A new analysis of nearly 600 men who received brachytherapy for prostate cancer shows that overall incidence of complications related to the procedure within four months of treatment is less than 20 percent. All patients were treated at Fox Chase Cancer Center.
