PHILADELPHIA (August 19, 2019) – Fox Chase Cancer Center will proudly participate in the Philadelphia Undy RunWalk to support the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and their mission to end colorectal cancer with national prevention, research, and patient support initiatives. Saturday, September 14, 2019, in Paine’s Park.

PHILADELPHIA (August 16, 2019) – Recently, Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers found a potential way to sensitize a new subset of patients with high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma to PARP inhibitors, a promising drug used in some cases of this disease. Disruption of HSP90 function can lead to death of ovarian cancer cell lines without known defects in DNA repair mechanisms, such as BRCA1/2 mutations, when used in combination with a PARP inhibitor.

PHILADELPHIA (August 16, 2019) – Natural killer cells, which have an innate capacity to identify and kill tumor cells or virus-infected cells in humans, are an important part of the body’s immune system. Key in distinguishing healthy cells from abnormal cells by natural killer cells is their expression of killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs).

PHILADELPHIA (August 19, 2019) – A new study by researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center provides more evidence that colorectal cancers diagnosed in younger patients may be distinct from those diagnosed in older patients.

PHILADELPHIA (August 14, 2019) – Patients with head and neck cancer lived longer when their treatment was coordinated by a dedicated multidisciplinary tumor board, according to a new study by clinicians at Fox Chase Cancer Center at Temple University Hospital and the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

PHILADELPHIA (August 14, 2019) – Two researchers at the Fox Chase Cancer Center have received a grant to study the cell-cell communication between pancreatic cancer cells and fibroblastic stromal calls. The recipients of the National Cancer Institute grant are Igor Astsaturov, MD, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Hematology/Oncology, and Edna Cukierman, PhD, an associate professor with the Cancer Biology Research Department.

PHILADELPHIA (August 14, 2019) — Fox Chase Cancer Center is a proud supporter of the Miles for Melanoma Run/Walk 2019 in Philadelphia, which is presented by the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF). Faculty and staff, volunteers, patients and survivors, and their families will come together for this family-friendly 5K run/walk to raise funds to support melanoma research, education, and advocacy through MRF.

The event is being held at the Philadelphia Zoo on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Check-in and registration begin at 7 a.m. and the run/walk kicks off at 8:15 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA (August 13, 2019)—Fox Chase Cancer Center is raising awareness about the signs and risk factors for ovarian cancer. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. The ACS estimates that in 2019, about 22,530 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer, and about 13,980 women will die from the disease.
