If it’s summertime, it’s baseball season. And there is no place in America where fans love their team more than in Philadelphia. So, to celebrate the season and to show some much-deserved appreciation for the many people who make up Philadelphia’s Cancer Center, Fox Chase hosted a Phillies Block Party on July 17.

A sea of red flooded the Fox Chase Courtyard as employees donning their Phillies-themed “We Are Fox Chase” T-shirts enjoyed the festival-like atmosphere, complete with a DJ playing upbeat party music, a variety of lawn games, and even a dunk tank where anyone could take their best shot to see COO Joel Helmke, MSHP, FACHE, under water.

A fully catered lunch featured picnic-style fare, from burgers and dogs to pulled pork, sausage and peppers, and water ice for dessert.

Phillies Team Spirit at the Cancer Center

Rounding out the fun were special visits by the Phillie Phanatic, the Phillies Ball Girls, and 1993 National League champion Mickey Morandini, who graciously posed for photos and signed baseballs for fans.

“The contributions you each make are important, but together, they add up to an incredible team effort,” said Morandini in remarks to the crowd. “I’ve seen what happens when a team pulls together, and you are an outstanding example. It is my pleasure to join you today to celebrate your many achievements and to cheer you on to even more milestones in the future.”

“Facing cancer is hard, and we are here to offer our support, our care, our kindness through its many trials,” noted Fox Chase President and CEO Robert Uzzo, MD, MBA, FACS. “In doing so, we draw inspiration from the people we help—and it motivates us to keep doing better. Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission. Your commitment to the community of people at Fox Chase is what makes us unique.”

CHEERing on Employees
