PHILADELPHIA (October 17, 2011) – Come join Skyler Kleger, 7th grade student and daughter of a cancer survivor, and her rescue dog Cooper at Fox Chase Cancer Center’s annual charity dog-walk—Paws for the Cause—as they walk to raise funds to support the effort to prevail over cancer. The event takes place Sunday, October 23rd at 10:30 a.m. (registration at 9:30 a.m.) on Fox Chase’s Northeast Philadelphia campus (333 Cottman Avenue). Participants will enjoy a one-mile walk with their dogs around the Center grounds, as well as contests, prizes, and giveaways from local vendors.

"In 2007, my mom was diagnosed with cancer and my brothers and I were really scared. Luckily, her treatment at Fox Chase was successful and she is doing great today,” says Skyler. The Kleger’s dog Cooper was rescued from a local animal shelter after Sklyer’s mom finished her cancer treatment. “When I heard about this event, I wanted to get involved in honor of my mom and our dog.”

Registration for this year’s Paws for the Cause event will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 23rd, and the walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. For a $25 registration fee, participants will receive one T-shirt and goody bag filled with nutritious dog treats, Kuvasz greeting cards, coupons and the October 2011 issue of Tails magazine. They can also pick up freebies from one of the many vendors that will be at the walk like, PetSmart, 7-Eleven, WMGK-FM, and many more.
