BreastFest Philly Supports Breast Cancer Research at Fox Chase Cancer Center with Second Annual Philadelphia Fundraising Event

Philadelphia (August 11, 2011) – BreastFest, the flagship event of breast cancer research organization the Tyanna Foundation, will host its second annual Philadelphia fundraising event to benefit Fox Chase Cancer Center on Saturday, September 17 at Mad River Bar & Grille (4100 Main Street in Manayunk) from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Tickets are $50 at the door or can be purchased in advance for $40. The cost includes admission, specialty drinks, food, and live entertainment from local groups Loverbuggy, Sara O’Brien, Alice’s Garage, Northern Rednecks, and Stellar Mojo. Guests can also participate in a silent auction with generous items donated by local sponsors and buy branded apparel by presenting sponsor Under Armour.

Fox Chase’s mobile mammography van—where women can learn about the importance of yearly mammograms, including what to expect and how to conduct a proper self-breast exam—will also be on-site at the event.

BreastFest Philly attracted 300 guests last year for its premiere event.

With BreastFest, the Tyanna Foundation offers a small, local alternative to giants such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure. BreastFest Philly assures sponsors and donors that 90 percent of all funds go to Fox Chase Cancer Center.  The remaining ten percent go to the Tyanna Foundation to be used for endowments, scholarships, and cancer research in Pennsylvania.

About the Tyanna Foundation

Founded in 1999 by five sisters, the Tyanna Foundation is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to improving the lives of breast cancer patients. Anne-Margaret, Bridget, Megan, Sara and Katie O’Brien lost their mother Tyanna Barre O’Brien, then 48, to breast cancer in 1990.

Through various fundraising events around the nation including BreastFest, the Tyanna Foundation has raised over one million dollars for breast cancer awareness, research, services, education, treatment and patient care.  Over 10 years later, the organization remains 100% volunteer and 90% of the funds stay in the local area.
