Barbara Pro, MD, Joins Fox Chase's Department of Medical Oncolog

PHILADELPHIA (September 21, 2010) – Barbara Pro, MD, has joined Fox Chase Cancer Center as an attending physician for the department of medical oncology. She treats patients with Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, specializing in T-cell lymphoma—a cancer that accounts for about 10-15 percent of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas diagnosed annually in the United States.

Pro comes to Fox Chase from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where she served as an associate professor in the department of lymphoma/myeloma, division of cancer medicine.
“I have devoted the last five years to developing a research program for the treatment of patients with T-cell lymphoma,” Pro says. “I am excited to continue this work at
Fox Chase, where I’ll have the scientific resources needed to create a translational research program for this disease.”

Pro served as chief resident in internal medicine at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Cabrini) Program in New York after earning her M.D. at University La Sapienza in Rome, Italy.  She also completed fellowships in medical oncology at both The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the University La Sapienza.

Among Pro’s extensive collection of published writings are over 60 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, over 70 abstracts, and nine book chapters on topics ranging from breast cancer to primary brain tumors.  She has presented at numerous national and international conferences and received seminar invitations from varied institutions throughout her career.

Pro is a member of national and international professional societies, including the Italian Association of Medical Oncology, American College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and European Association for Cancer Research.

Pro was awarded America’s Top Physician Award by the Consumers' Research Council of America, and received a national research grant from the Italian Association Against Cancer.
