Chief Financial Officer
As the chief financial officer of Fox Chase Cancer Center, Jared Matchett is responsible for directing its financial operations, as well as designing and executing strategic financial plans and initiatives that will further its clinical, research, and academic goals. This includes working closely with the clinical and operational leadership team to capitalize on new business opportunities, align resources to sustain growing patient volumes, maximize the center’s capabilities through integration efforts within the health system, and build on Fox Chase’s overall financial strength.
Matchett joined Fox Chase in 2022 after spending 15 years at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). There, he worked in progressive roles, most recently as director of finance for UPMC International and previously as acting chief financial officer for UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
While at UPMC, Matchett increased reimbursement and improved operating margins by restructuring several joint venture physician offices into hospital-based clinics; established new hospital-based medical oncology practices across a growing network of over 70 locations; increased operating income by over $5 million annually for UPMC International by implementing accounting best practices and streamlining financial reporting; and helped secure a contract of up to $2 billion for the construction of up to five new hospitals in China.
Before this, Matchett led financial management functions for UPMC’s Critical Care Service Center comprised of 37 adult intensive care units. He also worked in cost management for UPMC’s payer provider programs overseeing significant departmental growth while steering the success of the industry’s first, large-scale cost accounting system at an academic medical center, from conception to deployment to end users.
Earlier in his tenure, Matchett held financial analysis positions at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside, UPMC’s nationally-ranked 1,300-bed flagship hospital, and in Corporate Finance for UPMC in a two-year accelerated rotational program for top talent college graduates. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
