Melanoma;  Skin Cancer

As a retired telephone engineer, Roy Conners’s hands are his livelihood. Semi-retired in 2014 at the age of 76, Roy is self-employed as an electronics technician assisting clients with a variety of small repairs. After raising a family in Northeast Philadelphia, he moved to Cape May Courthouse, NJ, in 2005 to enjoy a slower paced lifestyle and to be closer to the beach. For several years he had endured an unsightly growth under his right thumbnail. It grew in size and continued to change its appearance. “Basically it was a large, ugly growth,” Roy recalls.

In fact, I had been ignoring the spot for quite some time until a physician friend in July 2008 told me that I was long overdue in seeing a dermatologist.

Skin Cancer

When Murray Ianni noticed a little bump the size of a dime on his thigh, he didn’t think much of it. Fair skinned, Murray studiously avoids the sun and stays covered up whenever he’s outside. Still, his doctor suggested he see a dermatologist for a biopsy. And with a history of cancer in his family, Murray, who was 71, didn’t want to waste any time.
