Diagnosing Penile Cancer

Accurate diagnosis is essential to choosing the best treatment for your type and stage of penile cancer. Initial diagnostic tests for penile cancer include:

  • A physical examination of the penis and the surrounding lymph nodes and tissues
  • An evaluation of your medical history
  • Biopsy

Imaging tests may be conducted in order to determine whether the cancer has spread beyond the penis or whether treatment has been effective, including:

  • Ultrasound
  • Computed tomography (CT) scan
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan

Fox Chase Cancer Center radiologists and pathologists who specialize in reviewing penile tissue can diagnose the type and stage of penile cancer and determine whether it is invasive or non-invasive.
