PHILADELPHIA (February 22, 2023)—The Fox Chase Cancer Center Biosample Repository Facility was recently awarded accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on results of a recent on-site inspection.

PHILADELPHIA (February 22, 2023)—Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have begun recruiting for a clinical trial called PRESERVE that will evaluate the safety and efficacy of the NanoKnife System to destroy prostate cancer cells. One of the measurements of treatment effectiveness is to assess the number of subjects that were able to avoid surgery to completely remove the prostate.

PHILADELPHIA (February 15, 2023)—John Karanicolas, PhD, co-leader of the Cancer Signaling and Microenvironment research program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, was recently awarded a $1 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to develop a platform that could assist in the development of new drugs.

PHILADELPHIA (February 15, 2023)—Half of the experimental group of muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients successfully kept their bladders and reached the two-year endpoint of the RETAIN BLADDER phase II clinical trial without developing metastatic cancer, according to final results presented today by Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers at the 2023 American Society of Clinical Oncology Genitourinary Cancers Symposium in San Francisco.

Unfortunately, these cancer cells also have an uncanny ability to repair DNA damage and survive, so they can continue spreading throughout the body.

PHILADELPHIA (February 7, 2023)—Fox Chase Cancer Center has formed a new Department of Urology that will be chaired by Alexander Kutikov, MD, FACS, who is the Roberta R. Scheller Chair in Urologic Oncology at Fox Chase. Jay Simhan, MD, FACS, professor and director of Reconstructive Urology, will be the department vice chair. Kristen Ragusa will be the new department’s lead administrator.

PHILADELPHIA (February 7, 2023)—Cihangir Duy, PhD, MS, an assistant professor in the Nuclear Dynamics and Cancer research program and a member of the Cancer Epigenetics Institute at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been awarded an American Society of Hematology (ASH) 2023 Junior Faculty Scholar Award in basic/translational research.
