PHILADELPHIA (May 24, 2018) – As nearly 40,000 cancer researchers, physicians, and advocates gather in Chicago for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, nearly 20 Fox Chase Cancer Center faculty and students will present their research on a range of topics. 

PHILADELPHIA (May 23, 2018) – Mariusz A. Wasik, MD, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Pathology at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Jeanes Hospital, joining the faculty on July 2.. He will also serve as Associate Director of the Cancer Center. 

PHILADELPHIA (May 19, 2018) – Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) comes with the risk of side effects, and the effects increase as the therapy is given. Physicians at Fox Chase Cancer Center have determined that local cryosurgery is a viable option to delay or avoid ADT for many of these men.

PHILADELPHIA (May 19, 2018) – Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center are seeking to solve a diagnostic dilemma inherent in current treatment recommendations for bladder cancer. This trial marks the first time the true negative predictive value of a normal cystoscopic evaluation  is being identified, allowing researchers to establish how often bladder cancer hides under the mucosa and evades endoscopic diagnosis. 

PHILADELPHIA (May 17, 2018) – Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, FACS, associate professor of surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been appointed vice chair of the Complex General Surgical Oncology Program Directors Committee of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO). 

PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2018) – Robert G. Uzzo, MD, FACS, professor and chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, received the 2018 SUO Medal from the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) for his significant contributions to the field of urologic oncology.

GERMANTOWN, Md. (May 10, 2018) The HealthWell Foundation^®, an independent non-profit that provides a financial lifeline for inadequately insured Americans, has launched a new fund to provide copayment assistance for behavioral health treatments related to a cancer diagnosis. Through theCancer-Related Behavioral Health Fund, HealthWell will provide up to $2,000 in financial assistance for a 12-month grant to eligible patients who have annual household incomes up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level.

PHILADELPHIA (May 10, 2018) – Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have developed a computer-based method to design disease-fighting antibodies, making it possible to strengthen and improve those known to be effective. The approach involved building new software that treats discrete pieces of the proteins as a collection of parts that can be adjusted and combined in new ways to design antibodies.
