PHILADELPHIA (August 23, 2018) – Alexander Kutikov, MD, FACS, chief, Division of Urology and Urologic Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been named August’s Everyday Hero by the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED). The award is designed to showcase talented physicians who probably don’t view themselves as heroes, but to patients and colleagues they are.

PHILADELPHIA (September 21, 2018)— On September 21, Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden are hosting the National Biden Cancer Summit in Washington, D.C., to drive the urgency of now by promoting new solutions, bringing together problem solvers, and telling stories that epitomize what it means to be cancer FIERCE. The Life Raft Group will announce a new initiative to strengthen and advance research for effective treatments of a rare subset of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) patients who have been unresponsive to the current standard treatments. 

PHILADELPHIA (September 17, 2018)— On September 20, 2018, J. Robert Beck, MD, Senior Vice President and Deputy Cancer Center Director at Fox Chase Cancer Center, will receive the West Oak Lane Charter School Community Champion Award, in recognition of Dr. Beck’s support of WOLCS’s STEM program.

PHILADELPHIA (September 11, 2018) – This one-mile walk around Fox Chase Cancer Center’s main campus is a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer research and the postdoctoral research program. PHILADELPHIA (September 10, 2018)— Chemoprevention was effective in reducing the incidence of colorectal cancer in a new study, but the therapies worked differently depending on whether mice presented with or without benign tumors at the time the intervention started. 

PHILADELPHIA (September 6, 2018) – Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have demonstrated for the first time how two diet-dependent signaling pathways fit together to control the health and lifespan of stem cells. Their work shows that manipulating the balance between these pathways can influence how long stem cells live and how long they can reproduce.

PHILADELPHIA (August 29, 2018)—Yanis Boumber, MD, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Hematology/Oncology, has been awarded a R21 grant from the National Cancer Institute to support research on non-small cell lung cancer.

PHILADELPHIA (August 29, 2018)— Shannon Lynch, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has received a grant from the American Cancer Society to support her efforts to reduce racial disparities in prostate cancer.
