PHILADELPHIA (November 6, 2015) – Temple University Hospital earned the status of a “Blue Distinction Center for Transplants” by Blue Cross Blue Shield, in recognition of the Fox Chase-Temple University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program’s expertise in performing adult bone marrow transplants.

PHILADELPHIA (November 6, 2015) – A recent preclinical investigation of a novel small molecule called ONC201 suggests it could potentially offer therapeutic benefits for patients diagnosed with either triple negative or non-triple negative breast cancer. Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center – Temple Health presented these findings at the AACR-NCI-EORTC International Conference on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics in Boston from Nov. 5-9, 2015.

PHILADELPHIA (October 20, 2015) – Treatment of early-stage breast cancer with fewer, larger doses of radiation results in equivalent clinical outcomes as conventional radiation therapy, according to new research by Fox Chase Cancer Center – Temple Health investigators. The study revealed no significant difference in survival rates or long-term side effects in patients who received either intense (hypofractionated) radiation therapy over a four-week period or standard radiation therapy over a six- to seven-week period. The eight-year results of the prospective Phase II study were presented October 20 at the 57th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in San Antonio, Texas.

PHILADELPHIA (October 19, 2015) – In the biggest study to date evaluating patients with nonmetastatic, large, invasive breast cancers, survival rates were found to be similar for patients treated with either breast conservation surgery and radiation, or mastectomy, according to an analysis published in Cancer.

PHILADELPHIA (October 18, 2015) — Men’s health supplements, which are often marketed as having “clinically proven” anti-cancer or healing effects, do not actually provide significant clinical benefits to prostate cancer patients, according to new research by Fox Chase Cancer Center – Temple Health investigators. The first-of-its-kind study reveals that these supplements do not significantly help to prevent distant metastasis, cancer-related death, or adverse effects in prostate cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. The findings were presented October 18 at the 57th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in San Antonio, Texas.

PHILADELPHIA (October 18, 2015) — Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer found in men in the United States, affecting 14 percent, whereas diabetes affects about 9 percent of the population. Even though both conditions are often present in the same individual, it has not been clear how a diabetes diagnosis affects clinical outcomes for prostate cancer. Research at Fox Chase Cancer Center – Temple Health showed that the answer depends on what type of anti-diabetic drugs, if any, prostate cancer patients are taking.
