PHILADELPHIA (August 11, 2015) – Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Top Docs and fellows will provide free rapid skin cancer screening via the Mobile Screening Unit at the 2015 Miles for Melanoma Philadelphia on Sunday, August 16, 2015.

The screenings will be available from 7:00 am until 9:00 am. Individuals seeking a full body exam will be seen on the Mobile Screening Unit to ensure privacy; all other spot check examinations will be viewed within the Fox Chase tent. The unit, supported by the Flyers Wives Charities enables us to reach communities throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, according to Evelyn González, senior director of community outreach for Fox Chase.

Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have now identified genetic mutations that predict response to chemotherapy in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer, opening new avenues for personalized treatment approaches.

PHILADELPHIA (August 3, 2015) – Joseph R. Testa, PhD, professor and Carol and Kenneth E. Weg Chair of Human Genetics at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been appointed to serve as senior editor for Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

PHILADELPHIA (July 21, 2015)—Fox Chase Cancer Center has been ranked 21st among the nation’s top 50 hospitals for cancer care in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2015-2016 rankings. Fox Chase was also cited as high performing in the areas of urology; gynecology; and ear, nose, and throat.

PHILADELPHIA (July 16, 2015) — Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia awarded Fox Chase Cancer Center a grant for $25,000 for, “Understanding Quality of Life Issues Following Recovery from Colon Cancer Treatment.”  The money for this grant comes from funds that were raised during the 2015 Get Your Rear in Gear in Philadelphia.

HUMMELSTOWN, PA (July 13, 2015) – Oncoceutics and Fox Chase Cancer Center have announced an agreement to conduct clinical testing with ONC201, a novel first-in-class small molecule compound being developed by the company. The study  will systematically assess dose escalation with three different schedules for oral ONC201 ranging from every three week to one week administration.

PHILADELPHIA (June 12, 2015) — Because of its location, cancers on the pancreas may invade and wrap around nearby veins and arteries in the abdomen. When these vessels become involved, surgery to remove the cancer, which is typically the standard treatment, becomes significantly more difficult and sometimes impossible. Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have identified a way to safely shrink the tumor, pulling it away from these vessels and allowing patients to undergo potentially curative surgery.
