PHILADELPHIA, PA (August 27, 2014)—Fox Chase Cancer Center infusion room nurses Karen Lorek, RN, and Caitlin Foley, RN, will each be honored on Saturday, September 6 by Lisa’s Army – a local non-profit cancer organization – during its Inaugural Ball & Monte Carlo Night at St. Gregory’s Founders Hall (8701 Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia). At the organization’s premier formal event of the year, the nurses will be receiving the Lisa's Army Comfort Excellence Award for their professionalism, expertise, compassion, and actions well beyond the scope of their job responsibilities.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (August 26, 2014)—On Friday, September 19 at 8:00 a.m. Fox Chase Cancer Center’s mobile mammography van – which brings breast cancer screening right into the community – will visit Councilman Brian O’Neill’s neighborhood office at The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #5 (11630 Caroline Road).

PHILADELPHIA, PA (August 19, 2014)—Mark A. Hallman, MD, PhD, has joined Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Department of Radiation Oncology. He completed his residency in radiation oncology this June at Fox Chase, having served as chief resident.

Dr. Hallman’s primary area of focus is the treatment of patients with thoracic, hematologic, and genitourinary malignancies. He has extensive training in several specialized radiation techniques, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and prostate brachytherapy.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (August 19, 2014)—Sanjay S. Reddy, MD – a surgeon trained in traditional, as well as laparoscopic and robotic techniques – has joined Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Department of Surgery after completing a two-year fellowship at the Center. He specializes in the care of patients with colorectal, liver, pancreatic, stomach cancers, melanoma and sarcomas.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (July 24, 2014)—New research in mice adds to the growing body of evidence that an inherited mutation can increase the risk of developing cancer after exposure to asbestos – but simply having a genetic predisposition does not appear to be enough to induce the disease.

PHILADELPHIA (July 15, 2014)—Fox Chase Cancer Center has been ranked 19th among the nation’s top 50 hospitals for cancer care in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2014-2015 rankings. Fox Chase was also cited as high performing in the areas of nephrology, urology, and gynecology, as well as a new area – ear, nose, and throat.

Study Finds that Some Women Do Better than Current Staging Guidelines Suggest

PHILADELPHIA, PA (July 7, 2014)—New findings from Fox Chase Cancer Center paint a relatively optimistic picture of women’s chances of surviving a subset of breast cancers that have spread to the chest wall or skin, but not beyond.
