Diagnosis & Treatment for Melanoma

At Fox Chase Cancer Center, our multidisciplinary medical team works closely to accurately diagnose your melanoma and help you understand your options so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment. The Fox Chase multidisciplinary team includes nationally-renowned doctors who helped develop the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines for providing high quality melanoma care.

As a regional and national leader in cancer care, Fox Chase has a wealth of experience treating all types of melanoma.

Accurate diagnosis is essential to choosing the best treatment for your type and stage of skin cancer. If you are worried about a spot or mole, it’s important to see a skin cancer specialist promptly. At Fox Chase, our nurse navigators will match you with an oncology specialist and help you schedule your first appointment as quickly as possible, often within one business day.

One diagnostic procedure specifically related to melanoma is the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). SLNB is recommended for all patients with melanoma tumors of intermediate thickness (between one and four milimeters in depth).
