Sarcoma

Alyssia O’Malley was a 44-year-old mother of two when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 retroperitoneal sarcoma in 2014. Her primary care physician referred her to Fox Chase Cancer Center for treatment where she underwent chemotherapy and later surgery. Today her cancer is in remission, and she is back to work full time. " I was very blessed to be at Fox Chase," Alyssia said. "I had been so scared, but I never worried in their care. They made me feel safe, and I knew they would do everything they could."

Larry Reddick

Head & Neck Cancer;  Sarcoma

At the age of 74, Larry Reddick was growing more and more frustrated with the hoarseness of his voice. When he began losing weight for no reason, he decided to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist, but found this physician was not helpful. Larry then sought a second opinion from the Temple Head and Neck Institute, where he was diagnosed with grade 2 chondosarcoma, a rare cancer that would need surgery. He was referred to Dr. Christopher Fundakowski at Fox Chase Cancer, where he also was treated by Dr. Margaret von Mehren, a medical oncologist, and Dr. Neal S. Topham, chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery; the surgery was a success. "Fox Chase is solely focused on cancer, and the staff is compassionate and professional," Larry said. "Fox Chase is the ultimate in quality care professionals, and I will always be extremely grateful to them. Today I am cancer free."

At 81 years old, Victoria Mirarchi was still active and healthy before undergoing surgery at a local hospital to remove a large mass from her abdominal area. The mass was diagnosed as liposarcoma, an aggressive tumor. When the tumor returned twice, Victoria decided to seek a second opinion from the specialists at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Following the surgery at Fox Chase, Victoria is happy to report that the cancer has not returned. She said, "I am so happy everything went well, and I still go back to Fox Chase every few months to see Dr. Reddy. I wish nothing but the best for all the surgeons there, and keep them in my prayers daily."

She was referred to Fox Chase Cancer Center for further treatment, where she underwent surgery to remove the cancer as well as reconstructive surgery, followed by radiation therapy. Today she is cancer free and feeling well. "I recommend Fox Chase to anyone who needs great care," Judith said. "I am so happy I was referred to Fox Chase where I have been blessed with my doctors and all of the Fox Chase employees I have met during this journey."

Catherine Rosenberg

Catherine Rosenberg

Sarcoma

Catherine Rosenberg's cancer journey began in 1990 when she was eight years old. Diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, she underwent two surgical resections followed by the maximal radiation an adult can receive to one part of the body at the age of eight. The surgery was successful, though Catherine developed lymphedema as a side effect to the treatment. As the pain grew worse she was unable to work. After two additional surgeries in 2013 and 2014, Catherine feels she has her life back; she is pursuing a PhD and is regularly active doing the things she loves. "In 2016, almost a year after surgery, I knew it was the best medical decision I’ve made in my life. I’ve had an amazing experience with the compassionate and caring doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants at Fox Chase...I’m continuing therapy at Fox Chase to treat my lymphedema, and I recommend Fox Chase to anyone with a similiar prognosis."
