PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 25, 2026) — Fox Chase Cancer Center today announced that David Weinberg, MD, MSc, has been appointed as Vice President/Physician Lead of the Cancer Screening and Prevention Service Line and Associate Director of Cancer Screening and Prevention for the Institute for Cancer Research.

Dr. Weinberg will lead a comprehensive, integrated effort to organize and strategically expand cancer screening and prevention research and services, including new care delivery models; point-of-care screening initiatives; dedicated screening clinics; and opportunities to educate, research and push screening deeper into communities. He will also guide multidisciplinary efforts to advance prevention research, address cancer disparities, strengthen community outreach, and support NCI priorities, while building collaborative programs across the research and clinical enterprise.

Weinberg joined Fox Chase in 2001 as Director of Gastroenterology and has served as inaugural Chair of the Department of Medicine since 2008. He is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and holds the Audrey Weg Schaus and Geoffrey Alan Weg Chair in Medical Science.
A distinguished clinician-scientist, Weinberg maintains an active gastroenterology practice and is internationally recognized for his research in the prevention and control of gastrointestinal malignancies, with particular focus on increasing cancer screening utilization and the role of novel biomarkers in cancer prevention. He serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Gastroenterology, the world’s leading GI subspecialty journal, and has held prominent leadership roles with the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the American Gastroenterological Association. He has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Philadelphia magazine and Castle Connolly since 2009.
Prior to joining Fox Chase, Weinberg completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and an internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University, his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and a master’s degree in cancer epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania.
