Fox Chase Cancer Center Launches New Employee Cancer Screening Initiative

According to the American Cancer Society, cancer screenings have the potential to prevent thousands of cancer cases and deaths in the United States. Detecting cancer early, when there is the best chance for successful treatment, is something everyone at Fox Chase knows the importance of.

To make cancer screening more convenient for staff, Fox Chase Cancer Center kicked off its Employee Cancer Screening Initiative this October. The program focuses on providing education and screening for a variety of cancers (including breast, lung, colorectal, and head and neck cancer) to all eligible staff members.

“While cancer education and screening are mainstays of our community-based efforts, we also recognize the importance of focusing our attention right here within our institution,” said Richard I. Fisher, MD, President and CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center. “As we provide cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment to our patients, it is equally important that we maintain good health and engage in preventive care ourselves.”

Approximately once a month, the program highlights a different cancer type and raises awareness about its risk factors and screening methods through educational sessions (led by nurse navigators and advanced practice clinicians) and an online portal.

Through the portal, employees can:

  • Make cancer screening appointments at Fox Chase
  • Find information on the criteria and guidelines for each type of cancer screening (including mammograms for breast cancer, low-dose CT scans for lung cancer, and more)
  • Verify their insurance coverage
  • Receive a HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices

Although cancer screenings at Fox Chase have always been available to staff, this initiative highlights the availability and benefits of this option.

Employee cancer screenings at Fox Chase are:

  • Located at Fox Chase’s Main Campus, allowing employees to get screened at or close to their workplace
  • Covered by most health plans
  • Read by Fox Chase’s team of experienced physicians

Our clinicians discuss the benefits of early detection and see the impact that it can have on treatment success every day. Because of this, we are dedicated to making sure our employees can conveniently schedule cancer screenings and stay on top of their own health.
