Nurse Navigator for Head and Neck
Meet Nurse Navigator Joanne Stein, RN
Joann Stein, RN
Head and Neck Nurse Navigator
Patients who come to the Center for head and neck treatment are offered individualized, compassionate care with a focus on wellness, stress reduction and quality of life and access to our full scope of research opportunities, with a personal guide to help the patient navgate the details.
Starting with a patient’s first call for an appointment, our staff works to ensure a coordinated, streamlined experience. The first visit includes a consultation with a team of specialists. If follow-up tests are necessary, we will make every effort to schedule them for the same day as this initial consultation. While the medical team discusses treatment options, a social worker will meet with the patient and her family to review support resources and logistics. In the end, everyone comes together to chart the best course of care. And at every step, the nurse navigator is there to guide the patient through the process.
Joanne Stein, RN, the Head and Neck Nurse Navigator, has been at Fox Chase (off and on) since 1975. She left a few times to pick up additional experience in radiation oncology, but always returned because she felt the Fox Chase experience was something she liked being a part of. Before becoming a nurse navigator in May 2010, she became familiar with much of the Center's treatment facilities, first as a staff nurse, then in clinical research coordinator, and Quality assurance coordinator in the Protocol Management Office.
