A major focus of the post-genomic era is the characterization of gene function at the molecular, cellular, organ and organism levels. Biological imaging has become a vital technology in modern cancer research and remains an essential component of all research programs at Fox Chase Cancer Center. The electron microscopy segment of the Imaging Facility provides researchers with the ultrastructural information down to nanometers, which is complementary to the information obtained by light/fluorescent microscopy.

Electron microscopy images of mitochondria in mouse heart tissue. Thin sections. Elrod Lab (Temple University).
Purified hepatitis B virus core protein self-assembled into capsides negatively stained with uranyl acetate. Novira Therapeutics.
Electron microscopy images of isolated aveola cells. Thin sections. Kosmider Lab (Temple).
Negative staining electron microscopy images of a dynamin-like GTPase Drp1 assembled into filaments. Strich Lab (Rowan University).
