"Everything was done in a timely manner and scheduled at a time that fit very well with my busy schedule."

— Bill Dennis, physician and cancer survivor

As a doctor himself, Bill Dennis was all too familiar with the early warning signs of cancer. Dennis, a physician specializing in pediatrics at a practice in Warminster, PA, was experiencing difficulty urinating in 2014. He consulted with a urologist at his local hospital who performed a transurethral resection. The test revealed that Dennis, who was 71, had prostate cancer.

“It was somewhat upsetting,” Dennis admits. “I’m a physician, and I knew what the next steps would be, but I didn’t like the idea of having cancer one bit.”

His urologist started him on a treatment of hormone therapy and referred him to Fox Chase Cancer Center for radiation therapy. Dennis made an appointment with Shelly Hayes, MD, the director of radiation oncology at Fox Chase’s Buckingham location, near his home.

“It was very convenient,” Dennis shares. “I had a CAT Scan and an MRI and then began a course of radiation therapy. There were about 40 treatments, and they all went exceptionally well.”

Dennis began radiation treatment in early June 2014 and finished by August. He was then tested to see if he had a tumor marker for prostate cancer, which he did not. A second test in May 2015 showed no trace of cancer.

"I was very pleased with the care, the courtesy and how nice everybody was at Fox Chase."

“I was very pleased with the care, the courtesy and how nice everybody was at Fox Chase,” Dennis explains. “I would recommend Fox Chase to anybody. Besides offering treatment at a convenient location, everything was done in a timely manner and scheduled at a time that fit very well with my busy schedule.”

Now that he’s cancer-free, Dennis spends his days reading historical novels, keeping up with technology and spending time with his wife, three children, and two grandchildren.
