M. Shuja Shafqat Joins the Division of Plastic Surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center

Dr. Shafqat will provide plastic and reconstructive surgery services.

PHILADELPHIA (August 13, 2018) – Fox Chase Cancer Center is pleased to announce the hiring of M. Shuja Shafqat, MD, to the Division of Plastic Surgery. He will provide plastic and reconstructive surgery services.

Currently Shafqat is a microsurgery fellow at Fox Chase, and will become an assistant professor on completion of the program in August. The microsurgery fellowship program accepts only one trainee each year. The fellow receives comprehensive training and education across a wide array of microsurgical cases, including reconstruction of the breast, head and neck, extremities and trunk. The curriculum is designed to prepare him or her for a leadership role in multidisciplinary microsurgical procedures in an academic or community setting.

Shafqat earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, and completed a combined plastic surgery residency. He has earned several awards and published numerous journal articles and book chapters, and been an active participant in surgical professional associations.

“We’re very excited to welcome Dr. Shafqat to our department,” said Neal Topham, MD, FACS, chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Fox Chase. “He has been an outstanding fellow, and I look forward to all he will accomplish.”
