Treatment Philosophy

I got into nursing from the HR field because I truly wanted to have an impact on, not just the patient, but the family as a whole. When I found myself facing the terminal cancer diagnosis of my father, it was very much an eye-opening experience that made me reflect on my values and what elements in a career would actually bring me fulfillment at the end of the day. Having been a family member and the recipient of the care of the nurses and medical team, and being valued as much as the patient, I knew right away that this was in fact the path I wanted to go with in my career.

I went back to school and attended the Drexel University School of Nursing Accelerated Career Entry Program to obtain my second degree, BSN.

Right out of school I went to work at the University of Pennsylvania on their Bone Marrow Transplant floor for about four years, and found I wanted to expand my nursing knowledge to other patient populations and learn other types of oncologic diagnosis, so when an opening presented itself at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia I felt this would be an exciting way to get my feet wet and learn more about oncology as well as the care of pediatric.

Having done that for several years, I learned that I missed working directly with adults and bone marrow transplants so I moved to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where my focus was on just that adult bone marrow transplant patients.

The missing piece in all of these opportunities over the years was the ability to really take the time to connect with the patient and educate them as well as help them along their path during the scariest time of their lives, as well as their caregivers not to mention doing so through the continuum of care. So, lo and behold, Fox Chase Cancer Center presented the perfect blend of helping to care for oncologic patients and their caregivers from the start of their diagnosis all the way through to treatment — the continuum of care — to hold their hand along the way, provide tehm with a resource, be an ear when they need to be listened to, or simply give a hug when one is needed.... That is why I do what I do and am proud to be here at Fox Chase Cancer Center.
