Treatment Philosophy

Early in my nursing career my goal was to meet people when they were facing a transition in their lives. I practiced in several different settings but realized the full definition of nursing when I began working in hospice. My work in hospice brought me to Fox Chase Cancer Center in the early 1980s. At that time I cared for patients in their homes as they began their final journey in life. I then learned what a privilege it was to share the journey of their cancer experience. I then became the Director of the hospice program with the goal of impacting more patients and families and helping other nurses grow in their nursing career. During this time I was able to make hospice more accessible to patients as the nature of health care evolved. During my time in hospice I became certified in hospice nursing, and was an active member in both state and national hospice organizations.

The next stage of my life at Fox Chase Cancer Center was to work as a nurse in the Pain and Palliative Care Program. My work in this position was centered in both the outpatient and the hospital setting. Our focus in this program was to improve the quality of patient's lives by better managing the symptoms associated with their cancer diagnosis.

The transition to being a GI Nurse Navigator seems to be a natural fit for me as in this role I can return to my primary goal by helping people negotiate and cope with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Fox Chase Cancer Center has really helped me define my role as a nurse and has afforded me the opportunity to meet and share with people both professional and patients/families who have shown me the true meaning of life.
