Prevention Screening
Fox Chase Cancer Center offers a Full Range of Traditional and Advanced Screening Options
Fox Chase Cancer Center's reputation for quality cancer treatment also includes an outstanding program for prevention assessment and screening examinations.
Cancer prevention and early detection begins with knowing your cancer risk; then, doing something about it. Regular screening may help detect cancer at its earliest stages when the chance of a cure is highest.
Preventive care such as screening tests and physical examinations may or may not be covered by an individual's health insurance. A referral from your physician may be required for insurance purposes. This should not be a barrier to making that initial call.

For Open End Endoscopy, referring physicians call 215-214-1421.
For people at age 50 or older, screening to prevent colon cancer should be part of their routine healthcare. For people with higher risks for colon cancer, such as having a family history of colon cancer or personal history of certain types of cancer, screening may start at an earlier age.
At Fox Chase, our gastroenterologists are very experienced at performing high-quality colonoscopy. We not only perform routine screening procedures on our patients, but also serve as a second-opinion center for difficult colonoscopies referred by other facilities. Read more »

Get the Facts on Skin Cancer
- Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer among American men and the sixth most common among American women.
- More than 53,000 cases a year are diagnosed in this country.
- Half the cases occur after age 50, but people as young as 20 are also at risk.
- Melanoma is now one of the most common cancers affecting Americans younger than 30.
- Among women between 25 and 29 years old, melanoma is more common than any non-skin cancer.
- Melanoma kills nearly 8,000 Americans a year.
- An estimated 80 percent of sun damage occurs before age 18, which can set the stage for skin cancer later. (Protecting children from sun is very important!)
Dermatologists recommend that very year on your birthday you take a good look at your birthday suit. If you notice anything on your skin that is changing, growing, or bleeding, see a dermatologist.
Regular check-ups are important. Skin cancer is very treatable when caught early.

Nonmelanoma skin cancers tend to grow slowly and rarely spread. Of the 3 different types of skin cancer, melanoma is the least common but more aggressive than basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma. It can occur anywhere on the body. And it can be deadly, but melanoma is curable if detected early.
