In 2006, I joined the staff at Fox Chase Cancer Center as director of its new hospitalist service. In this position, I am responsible for coordinating inpatient care, communicating with referring physicians, discharge planning and supervision of house staff. I work closely with attending physicians and fellows as well as with residents and students assigned to cover the inpatient service.
The hospitalist service enhances the continuum of care by providing an additional level of support for patients who may be dealing with diseases in addition to cancer or suffering from complications of cancer or cancer treatments. The development of the hospitalist service allows Fox Chase to provide our inpatients with the depth and breadth of excellence in all aspects of their medical care. It allows our medical oncologists to truly focus on our patients' cancer-related needs with confidence that their other complex medical needs are being addressed by experienced internists.
Fox Chase is one of only a few cancer centers in the nation with a hospitalist program, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City; The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston; and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, FL.
