Marcin Chwistek, MD

I joined Fox Chase Cancer Center in 2006 as an attending physician. It was during my training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center that I decided to specialize in cancer pain management and palliative medicine. For me, it is gratifying to be able to offer my patients pain relief. I enjoy that most of my time at Fox Chase is spent directly with patients.

Since my focus is pain and symptom management, as well as palliative care, I work with patients both during treatment and after they are discharged home. My goal is to support the best possible quality of life for my patients. I do this by paying close attention to their physical, but also psychological and spiritual needs, regardless of the stage of the disease or the need for other therapies.

I strive to assist patients in making the sometimes difficult health-care decisions associated with facing cancer. This is a time of incredible importance that warrants serious attention. The decisions made have a direct impact on the lives of patients and their loved ones. I strongly believe that if cure is not possible, healing is, and it is our responsibility to assist patients on this quest.

As part of the Palliative Care Service, we also assist patients in locating health-care resources available in their own communities. These include home care, nursing help, supportive care programs and hospice services, if appropriate.
