My first professional encounter with oncology was as a subintern on an oncology floor. I still remember a young patient I followed who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) at the beginning of my rotation. I followed her for the entire course while she was receiving chemotherapy. It was this experience that inspired me to focus my practice on helping cancer patients.

As a radiologist, it is very fulfilling to work in an oncology (cancer) hospital that provides leading edge treatments for its patients. At Fox Chase Cancer Center, the patients are extremely grateful for the medical care they receive from all levels of the staff.

I rejoined the staff at Fox Chase in 2003 after a 5-year hiatus (having worked here in Diagnostic Imaging from 1991 - 1998). During my time away, I was in a busy community hospital practice. Part of my responsibility there included supervising the Breast Imaging program.

During my career in radiology, I have seen many changes that have been implemented to enhance diagnosis of disease. There are many new imaging technologies available. The field of oncology is especially dependent on imaging to see whether patients are responding to different treatments and whether the cancer is improving or progressing.

Because of my background, I have a special interest in both breast and body imaging as well as interventional procedures, which use all methods of imaging (i.e. stereotactic, MRI and ultrasound breast biopsies, body CT and ultrasound percutaneous biopsies and drainages). We use many of these procedures to get tissue from patients participating in various clinical trials. I especially enjoy the opportunity for patient interaction that this allows me. I also enjoy my role as consultant for the clinicians.
