Fox Chase Cancer Center's Radiation Oncology Staff Adds Lally
PHILADELPHIA (August 5, 2008)—Brian E. Lally, MD, of Wyncote, PA, has joined Fox Chase Cancer Center's radiation oncology department. A board-certified radiation oncologist, he specializes in treating patients with lung cancer and other chest tumors such as esophageal cancer.
He has a special interest in translational research—research that translates laboratory research discoveries into clinical advances. He is also exploring the use of agents to make brain tumors more sensitive to radiation therapy.
"I am interested in combining novel agents with chemotherapy and radiation to improve cancer outcomes," Lally explained. "I am also interested in using imaging techniques, such as PET scans, to better understand how much radiation tumors receive during radiation therapy."
Lally has published a number of professional journal papers and made presentations at meetings of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and other professional organizations.
Lally received his bachelor's and master’s degrees in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. After interning in medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, he served his residency in radiation oncology and was chief resident at Yale University School of Medicine – New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT.
He then held a fellowship in translational radiation oncology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, before joining Fox Chase.
